Project: St. Martin's Church, Womersley.
Type: Watching Brief.
Parish/Township: Womersley. NGR: 453324 418979
Periods: modern
Description: Several inhumations were encountered during the drainage works and ground reduction to provide a disabled parking space, all of which were aligned west - east with the skull at the western end. The majority of these inhumations were left in situ, with the trench being of sufficient width to accommodate slight alterations to the layout of the drain runs. Five of the inhumations, however, had to be lifted by the archaeologists. These were stored in the church while work continued, and were re-buried on site at the end of the drainage works.
In addition to the inhumations, a vast amount of disarticulated human remains were encountered. These were also reburied within the drain cut once the drains had been laid.

Project: 2 Church Lane, Bardsey.

Lat/Long: 53.884217 N -1.441649 W
Periods: modern, early medieval (12th C)
Description: ongoing project
Originally an evaluation, the results from the initial phase of work suggested that significant archaeology was present within the site, probably associated with the nearby motte and bailey castle. An excavation of the remains is therefore now taking place.

Project: Hetchell Court, Bardsey.

Parish/Township: Bardsey-cum-Rigton. NGR: 436932 443387
Lat/Long: 53.885353 N -1.439691 W
Periods: modern
Description: Despite historical evidence suggesting that this area may have been associated in the past with the tanning industry, during the course of the site groundworks no archaeological features or deposits were encountered. It therefore appears that the site remained relatively unexploited until being used as domestic gardens.

Lat/Long: 53.951857 N -1.093852 W

Description: While no archaeological features or deposits were encountered within the footprint of the proposed building, a small assemblage of Roman pottery attests a Roman presence either on or close to the site.
