A fairly random selection of links including archaeological specialists who have carried out work on our behalf, online archives and code snippets that we have found particularly useful. This page was only recently added, and I'm still trying to remember all the sources I ought to acknowledge.

- jQuery
  JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions
- jQuery: Flot
  Plotting library for jQuery. It produces graphical plots of arbitrary datasets on-the-fly client-side.
- TimeMap
  Mapping applet which generates interactive maps. It provides a way of easily illustrating historical information that goes far beyond static jpg images. Used in the Thornborough section of the APC website
PHP
- PHPcoord
  PHP script for converting between latitude/longitude and grid references. Allows conversion between OSGB grid references, UTM references and latitude/longitude
- WikkaWiki
  Wiki engine written in PHP using MySQL to store page data. Used in the creation of the CBA Community Archaeology Forum
- WordPress
  Open source software using PHP and a MySQL database to enable 'blogging'. This has been used in the APC Chronicle web site
XHTML+CSS
- IE PNG Fix
  Script to add near-native PNG support with alpha opacity to IE 5.5 and 6

Geology
- BRITICE
  Fantastic map and GIS database of glacial landforms and features related to the last British Ice Sheet. Available as pdf files or GIS data stored in shapefiles as fully-attributed polygons or arcs which can be loaded into many GIS or CAD software packages. Version 2 currently in preparation
- British Geological Survey
  Free downloads of both 2D and 3D digital geoscientific data, including digital onshore geological maps at 1:625 000 scale covering Great Britain. Bedrock geology and superficial deposits themes are made available
Mapping
- OpenStreetMap
  Collaborative project to produce freely available and editable mapping. The project was started because most maps actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected ways.
- Ordnance Survey
  Having recently spent ages digitising contour data, I could weep seeing what the OS have just released...
  DXF contour data, raster files, GIS data relating to boundaries, roads, rivers etc, csv files of OS based post code locations...

- Internet Archaeology
  Online academic journal, published by the Council for British Archaeology and hosted by the Department of Archaeology at the University of York. Issues are published twice a year

Database
- Access to MySQL
  Program that will convert Microsoft Access Databases to MySQL. Available free of charge but donations appreciated. Pretty good, but check table indexes after using.
General
- OpenOffice
  Open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics and databases
GIS
- ArcExplorer
  Free downloadable application that offers an easy way to access and manipulate GIS data
Illustration
- Inkscape
  Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format
